Overnight rains in NCR has also left the Faridabad – Gurgaon highway battling traffic jams, waterlogged roads and flooding on thursday night. The incessant rains saw several areas of the city inundated with water.

As commonly experienced by any road user of Delhi/Bangalore/Hyderabad or any metros, private cars are causing traffic congestion by inefficiently using the limited road space - the cars are typically carrying only one to two commuters against a capacity of 5 or more (a low 20 to 40% capacity utilization). The present scheme however treats the available spare capacity in cars as an opportunity to provide a transport solution - whereby 3-4 Commuter, instead of traveling in separate cars, accommodate themselves in one car, especially during peak hours. In other words, the scheme aims to increase the capacity utilization (also called load factor) of cars to 60-80% and in the process take at least 50 % cars off the road. A 50 % reduction in number of cars plying on roads during peak hours, would decongest roads, increase traffic speed, and cut down fuel consumption by more than 50 per cent. And yes, they do their bit for the environment by saving on fuel emissions.

Delhi government planning to bring the idea of ‘Odd-Even Number Plate Car Policy’ from 1st November. It means that the all vehicles with plate no. ending with odd and even no. will run on alternative days.

Many Journalists have been asking the question : What will be Indias enviroment look like in 2020 ? Already India is one of the most polluted countries in the world? Air pollution in many Indian cities is also growing by leaps and bounds.

Increasing public transportation is the only way to solve this problem. All Indian cities should have more public transports and more importantly with hygiene. Thus makes commuters to use them effectively. Infrastructure is nearly zero here in our country
No proper integration of metro, rail and buses. We should introduce transportation for all types of class so that we could suceed.

Car pooling will also greatly help to curb air pollution. The government can pose ban on single person travelling in car in peak times and support for car pooling in major cities.
